How to Request Credits From Your Insurance Broker

Many homeowners qualify for home insurance discounts, credits, or preferred pricing programs based on devices and installations already in their home—but those credits are not always applied automatically.

Rafter helps you identify potential credits and provides a ready-to-send email (and call script) to make it easy to request a review from your insurance broker.

Why Homeowners Need to Ask

Insurance carriers typically require a policyholder or broker to initiate a review before credits are applied. Even if qualifying devices are already installed, they may not be reflected in your premium without documentation.

Your broker can:

  • Confirm which credits your carrier offers

  • Explain what documentation is required

  • Submit information for underwriting review

  • Advise whether any discounts or policy adjustments may apply

Option 1: Send the Rafter Email Template

After completing the Rafter Insurance Review Survey, you’ll receive a paste-able email that is pre-filled with your details. You can forward it the message to your broker.

Broker Email Template

Hi there,

My name is [Name], and I am a home insurance policyholder with [Home Insurance Company].

I wanted to check whether any of the devices and installations in my home may qualify me for available home insurance discounts, credits, or preferred pricing programs.

  • [Keep all that apply to your home]

  • Smart water shutoff

  • Professional HVAC maintenance contract

  • Monitored smoke/CO detectors

  • Monitored leak sensor

  • Monitored security alarm

  • Smart lock

  • Sump pump

If helpful, I’m happy to provide any additional details, photos, receipts, or confirmation needed for underwriting review.

Thanks in advance for taking a look—I appreciate your guidance on whether any discounts or policy adjustments may apply.

Thank you,
[Name]
[Email]

Tip: It may help to include your full home address and/or policy number.

Option 2: Use This Phone Script

If you prefer to call your insurance company or broker, you can use the script below. It mirrors the same language and intent as the email.

Phone Script

Hi, my name is [Name]. I’m a homeowner insured with [Insurance Company], and I’m calling to ask about potential home insurance discounts or credits.

I’d like to check whether any devices or installations in my home—such as safety systems or recent upgrades—may qualify for available discounts, credits, or preferred pricing programs.

Could you let me know what credits might apply under my policy and what documentation you would need for review? I’m happy to provide photos, receipts, or any additional details if helpful.

I’d also appreciate your guidance on whether there are other credits or policy adjustments I should be aware of.

Tip: If the broker asks you to follow up by email, you can simply send the pre-filled Rafter email template.
